Pastor Angel Rodriguez speaking to our Terra Nova students.

Have you ever heard the saying, “Explain it to me as if I were a child?" Children

are very inquisitive. They are often excited about learning new things. They are

teachable. The term we often use in the faith, is that they are pliable. They can be molded or shaped. They are in the process of learning and growing.

Contrast this with adults. As adults we often present the gospel in platitudes. A platitude may be defined as a statement, with moral content, that has been used too often to be interesting or thoughtful. Many of us have the attitude that we have heard it all. This often leads to the attitude, we know it all. Let me assure you, that we do not. While dealing with and lamenting this reality, I was inspired to think and share, as if I was speaking to a child. After all, we are called to have “childlike” faith. It would then to stand to reason, that we need to present the gospel in terms that a child can understand.

A few weeks ago, I was invited by Oslyn to present the message at the

Terra Nova Chapel Service. The audience consisted primarily of

elementary and middle school aged children. While I enjoy preaching and teaching, and have been blessed to share with some “challenging” adults, this was by far, one of the most sobering experiences. With Matthew 18:6 playing in my mental background, and after

layering the message in prayer, I survived and to my amazement, and with great

thankfulness to the Holy Spirit, the children “got it.” Praise God!

While reflecting on this experience, I had an epiphany.

Do you remember the nursery rhyme, Humpty-Dumpty? Let’s review it together.

Humpty-Dumpty sat on a wall,

Humpty-Dumpty had a great fall:

All the King’s horses, and all the King’s men could not

put Humpty-Dumpty together again.”

That my friends, is as profound, as it is true.

It illustrates in allegorical form, a point that all, including a child, can understand.

The fall of man was occasioned by sin. The fall of man was great in intensity and

magnitude.

The King’s men couldn’t put us back together again, so the King had to come in

the flesh and do it, Himself. For the Believer, through the cross ( The Lord, Jesus’

sacrificial death ) and the empty tomb (the Resurrection of Christ), we are made whole.

Our story has a completely different outcome. We have been put back together again.

Even better, we have been "born again." We have been made brand new. That my

friends is not a fairy tale, but life changing truth!

So simple that a child can understand it. How about you? Have you come to the

place where you recognize your broken condition and need to be put back together again?

I have good news for you, today. The King Himself is ready to do just that. Call on The

King! Call on Jesus! Then be prepared to experience chidlike amazement and awe, at the outcome.

Be encouraged today!
